The shortlist for the 2017 Prime Minister’s Literary Awards was announced today, and we were thrilled to spot a familiar name on the list! AWC alumnus and award-winning author Tamsin Janu has been shortlisted in the Children’s fiction category with her junior fiction novel, Figgy and the President.
This is the sequel to Tamin’s debut novel, Figgy in the World – a story idea that struck her on the second day of her AWC course, Become a Children’s Author. (You can hear more about Tamsin’s award-winning start in children’s fiction on our blog and episode 190 of our podcast.)
From the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards media release:
The 30 shortlisted books showcase the breadth and depth of Australia’s literary talent across six categories—fiction, non-fiction, Australian history, young adult fiction, children’s fiction and poetry.
The expert judging panels had the demanding task of selecting the shortlists from more than 450 entries this year. The selected works range from contemplative but captivating children’s and young adult stories; thought provoking novels and poetry that immerse readers in the human experience; through to accomplished non-fiction books and powerful accounts of Australian history.
