A huge congratulations to AWC’s creative writing graduate Penelope Janu on the publication of three books this year, including On the Same Page, which also won the prestigious 2017 XO Romance Prize.
On the Same Page tells the story of Miles Franklin (named after the famous author), who is a successful lawyer. But by night she writes historical romance novels under the pen name Emma Browning. When her assistant covertly enters her boss’s novel in one of Australia’s biggest literary awards—and it wins—Miles’s perfectly ordered world is torn apart.
This follows the publication of Penelope’s second book On the Right Track, a warm-hearted rural romance and her story, Six Rules of Christmas which appears in Our Country Christmas – a feel-good collection of Australian Christmas stories to warm the heart.
Penelope’s successful debut novel In at the Deep End was published last year.
Penelope says she doesn’t believe she would have taken up creative writing if it weren’t for a weekend creative writing course she took at the Australian Writers’ Centre.
“Some of the things I learnt at the Australian Writers’ Centre gave me the encouragement to think I could start.”
Today Penelope is a full-time writer. A far cry from her life as a solicitor and legal academic. View her inspirational story.
Congratulations Penelope. Here’s to many more books.
