Word of the week: Paean

Paean (noun)
[pee-an]

“This comes from Ancient Greece and refers to a song that gives thanks to a god (specifically Greek god Apollo). Since it’s not likely we are singing such things these days, it’s now used to describe a form of rapturous or extravagant praise. So you might say: ‘Her speech was a paean to the achievements of her boss.’”
